In Your Purse Projects

Ok, so I decided that I wanted some projects that I could carry around and do while waiting in line, or waiting for my dh to get off of work.  I went to the dolor store first, because I dont really carry a purse, I needed something small and purse like that I could carry these projects in.  I found some cute little purse like bags, I bought 4, but hey you only need 1!!

Here are the purses...

Mini Purses

Then I needed to find some projects that were small enough that they fit in these little bags.  So this post was born.  Here I will post links to projects that will fit in your purses to take to the grocery store, or wait for someone, or at the dr's office etc.  I am going to leave at least one of these purse projects in my car so that no matter where we are I have something to work on.

For those who just want to knit, a solution!!

Not that I hate to purl, but some do.  My knitting group friends and I were chatting about some people hating to purl, and one of them said they should try backwards knitting, so I thought I would google backwards knitting and I found this great video about backwards knitting.  So for all those who just want to knit here you go!!

Some New Dishcloths

I Finished the April Dishcloths for the Monthly group I am in.  Here they are.

2008MFKAL - AprilFirstCloth

2008MMKAL - AprilMidCloth

These cloths were great to work on, the striped one i just about had to rip apart because I thought I had missed a row or two, but it worked out that i wasnt missing any.  And the picture cloth was great because I dont think i have ever knitted a bobble (the 4 little ball type flowers) before, so that was new.

The modified Elephant Bib

So it is my nephews birthday in a few days and I thought I would make him a bib for his birthday, you can see it in the post below!  I really like the elephant bib that you can find here.  But I wanted more sturdy straps and something that could be easily put on and taken off.  So here is my modifications to the already great bib!

The body of the bib is 41 rows of sc instead of 34, this is to accommodated the catch all pocket at the bottom.

The Elephant head is done the same, but the trunk i did not go down to 1 stitch at the end instead i left it at 2 sc, ch 1, turn for 9 rows.

The eyes on the elephant were simply done by crocheting a slst in a diamond pattern.

For the elephant I also created him and added his ears before crocheting him to the bib with a slst chain around from the bottom of one ear, up the ear, across the top of the head and down to the bottom of the other ear.  I left the bottom of the elephant open, to give the elephant a little more flexibility.

For the straps, you can do either strap first, here are the instructions for both sides.

Button side:

Row 1: making sure that you have ch 1, and turn sc in the next 10 sc, ch 1 turn.
Row 2-3: decrease over the next 2 sc, sc in each of the next 6 sc, decrease over the last 2 sc, ch 1 turn. (8, 6)
Row 4-21: sc in each sc, ch 1, turn, finish off.

Button hole side:

The button holes are dependent on the size of the button, if the button is a bit smaller then mine, you will have to adjust the size of the hole, I added the button on the button side before starting the button hole side so that I could play with the size of the hole.

For mine, i used a button approximately 13/16 in diameter, but this hole would accommodated a button 1 inch in diameter if needed.

Row 1: making sure that you have ch 1, and turn sc in the next 10 sc, ch 1 turn.
Row 2-3: decrease over the next 2 sc, sc in each of the next 6 sc, decrease over the last 2 sc, ch 1 turn. (8, 6)
Row 4-17: sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 18: 2 sc in first sc, chain 4, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 19: decrease over 2 sc, sc in next 4 ch, decrease over last 2 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 20-21: sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 22: repeat row 18.
Row 23: repeat row 19.
Row 24-25: repeat rows 20-21.
Row 26: repeat row 18.
Row 27: repeat row 19.
Row 28-29: repeat rows 20-21, finish off.

For the catch all bottom and finished edges:

at the bottom, fold up about 7 rows to the front of the bib.  join thread at the fold and sc the edges together by sc in each row, making sure to catch the last corner row so that the corner doesnt remain loose, continue sc in each row up the bib, and around the straps, and back down to the other side where you will fold up the other half of the catch all and sc join that seam together, bind off and sew in all loose threads.

And there you have it.  Please let me know if you have any questions about my modifications.

thanks!
